Philippine food sotanghon

Golden Palace is a Chinese restaurant located in Daet, Camarines Norte. Our house was just a few blocks away from it. I love to buy their special sotanghon which is absolutely very delicious cuisine. Sotanghon is now considered a Philippine main food since many Filipinos adapted it. I remembered my mother who cook her own version of sotanghon . I have learned how to cook it but since I am not an expert sometimes it would turn to be watery and bland. And I am not satisfied.

So today, I bought a special order of Sotanghon in Golden Palace restaurant. This is one of my favorite Philippine main food basically prepared during special occasions. But me, I love it just my snacks for the day.

Philippine food----- champorado

My sister and I love champorado during our younger years. I usually made it through mixing lugaw or rice gruel or congee with 2 tablespoon of Milo chocolate drink. My sister really loves the choco flavor and sweetness it brings. Champorado is a sweet chocolate rice porridge in Filipino cuisine. Champorado is made by boiling sticky rice and cocoa powder giving it a distinctly brown color. Champorado can be served hot or cold and with milk and sugar to taste. Champorado is served usually at breakfast. According to several history books, Jose Rizal was the first one who made and discovered champorado.

Until now, my sister still cooks for her daughter champorado for breakfast and in snacks. It is best during rainy season.

Philippine food- beefsteak or bistek

This is a popular Philippine food. Filipino style beefsteak is one of my favorite dish. To make the beefsteak, marinate the beef for a few minutes in the soy sauce and kalamansi or lemon. Heat up a pan (non-reactive as you will be using acid), add some oil until hot, and cook the beef. I like to remove the beef (so it doesn’t overcook) then stir fry the onions until cooked, add any leftover marinade, season with ground pepper, then stir until just done. I think white onions are the best for beefsteak since it is not as strong as the red one, it absorbs the juice and does not interfere with the tatse of the sauce.

HMMM........ I love this.:)

Philippine food-- egg torta

I have this traditional Philippine favorite egg recipe which is the egg torta. It is very easy to prepare. First, saute the garlic and the onion, add sliced tomatoes, put the beaten eggs. The beaten eggs must be seasoned with salt before addding to the saute. As it cooks, the egg will turn into omelette packed with the tomatoes. I really loved this as a viand or a filling to breads.

This is a very traditional Philippine food and my nephews love this, egg torta when I prepare this for breakfast.

Philippine food- My favorite Tinapa ( smoked fish )

When I have been eating too much meat for days, I start craving for something simpler, something more basic… like Philippines' smoked fish or tinapa.Ahh!! There is nothing like dipping smoked fish into some favorite vinegar and consuming it with copious amounts of steamed rice, typically for breakfast! This is one of my favorite(and yes with scrambled eggs, tomatoes and sinangag).

Our household kitchen would be filled up with smell when I cook breakfast. This is the essence of a truely Philippine viand.

Philippine food- Pork barbeque

I have my own recipe of pork chop barbeque.I only experimented and it turns out great taste.I have tried it to my family and i am thankful they all like it.

pork chops/ pork cut into bbq size
soy sauce
Sprite softdrink
chopped garlic
ground pepper
Ginisa flavor mix
sugar
msg

Just blend all the ingredients. Let it stand for about 2 hours or up to what you wanted. Then grill it and brush with the remaining sauce and put a little tomato catsup for brushing.

Tip:

I usually out a little oil on the baste for brushing. So that the pork chop barbeque wont be dry after it is cooked.

The sprite softdrink makes the pork meat tender.
